Idaho-born vocalist, composer, and educator Farayi Malek grew up immersed in bluegrass, American folk, and gospel music, influences that blended with the cultural heritage of her Zimbabwean father to shape her distinctive sound. Today, the Grammy-nominated artist moves fluidly across folk, jazz, classical, and global traditions, creating a musical world uniquely her own.

Malek has been featured on several acclaimed recordings, including Crisálida with Danilo Pérez’s Global Messengers, nominated for Best Latin Jazz Album at the 2023 Grammy Awards, and A Change Is Gonna Come with Palaver Strings, nominated for Best Classical Vocal Album at the 2025 Grammys. She also appears on Constellations, a new album by pianist and composer Margaux Vranken.

Praised by Roger Brown, former president of Berklee College of Music, as a “once-in-a-generation voice,” Malek has been featured in Classic Chicago Magazine, Berkshire Magazine, and the Bay State Banner. Alongside her performing career, she is a passionate educator dedicated to inspiring the next generation of musicians.
